Hi Folks -

So in one of the buildings I work in, I saw this (a quick, dirty shot...I always feel weird shooting someones car when I’m not at a car show):

Kinja'd!!!

Sort of looks like it want’s to be a Japanese Mini Cooper, or something. Obviously, it’s owner is an Ex-Pat, otherwise this would have been crushed and hurled into the sun upon arrival (because we have some bullshit laws here in the US). I’m not sure if it would be fun to drive, or just a cute disappointment.

Don’t understand how it’s not crushed?

It’s plated, so DMV knows about it. Again, I think the owner is an ex-pat, so maybe there’s special dispensation?

The plates may be off something else, as far as I know only diplomats can get around the laws. Although somebody did buy an A-class Mercedes from a diplomat and could tag it, so I have no clue...

I like these little cars, I’d rock one.

A number of states will plate foreign cars if the owner is on official foreign business. Once the business is concluded the registration is revoked and has to be shipped back out. Cannot be legally sold, but sometimes the owners will (either unscrupulously or out of ignorance) and sometimes they disappear through the cracks especially if the state entered a random car in their database since the foreign one wasn’t in there.
